The client wanted alive showroom and sales gallery that could be used to take shoppers through the process of making the batik and begin to understand the back ground of the material. The budget for the extension was small and therefore we knew it had to be a very economical structure that we could play with the facade in a way that would capture the attention of thise passing by. We used the locally abundant bamboo and set the show room above the working area which we located on the ground floor.
House on the left is currently used to house collections and welcome guests. The aim is to create more professional experince but not lose the family business feel of the customer experience.
The concept of the facade was born from the drying and dye setting method of the batik on the frames in the grounds of the batik factory.
